Boxster Problems and Check-ups
Fortunately PORSCHE has done well with the Boxster's design. However, there can be some trouble spots that are important to give attention.
Top Problems:
1) Early Boxsters with plastic rear windows have a TSB (techincal service bulletin) for replacement of the cables involved in operating the top. The orignal design can allow one or both of these cables to slip and the top to be racked or skewed during operation.
Forcing the top to electrically or manually move will usually result in some of the linkages breaking. These are expensive components and are moderately time comsuming to replace and re-adjust the top's alignment.
If your top binds or stops during operation, the best thing to do is to CALL ! I can come to your car and temporarily correct the problem, then a review of the entire top mechanism can be done to permanently correct the cause.
2) Another developing problem with ANY Boxster is blockage of the drains around the articulating cover (behind the top). When these drains become blocked, water overflows into the car's interior. In extreme cases, enough water can get in to flood the computers in passengers compartment.
Rennsport Tuning is offering a preventative maintenance procedure to ensure these drains are free.
Check Engine light:
1) Many Boxsters and some 996 models are encountering Check Engine light coming on from the diagnostic system for oxygen sensors out of range.
It appears there may be a failure of the mass air flow sensor causing the injection system to provide the incorrect amount of fuel to the engine.
Bring your Boxster (or 996) for a service techique that may correct the signal sent from the mass flow sensor without replacement.
2) We're finding ANY Boxster can accumulate a variety of codes in the computer's diagnostic system. Usually, the Check Engine light will be set ( stay on in the dash). Some of these are related to the alarm system, or can be from a one time loose gas cap.
Bring your Boxster in for a scan session where we identify codes and 'clean the slate' when codes are a non-critcal nature.
